Accessibility
Many of our members are older, and some find phones hard to use. Hallmates is built so that everyone in the building can take part.
What the app does
- Text size up to Largest, and the app follows your phone's own text size.
- Light and dark mode, and a bold-text option. Text and background colors meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast level (4.5 to 1) in both modes.
- Buttons are large (at least 48 by 48 points) and spaced apart. Nothing depends on swiping.
- Built to work with the VoiceOver and TalkBack screen readers.
- Plain words instead of jargon, and no carousels or moving content.
- Every screen has a Help button that reaches a real person, your community admin.
The contrast and target sizes are design rules in the app's code. A full screen-reader test on iPhone (VoiceOver) has not been done (no Mac); TalkBack on Android has not been tested end to end either. Test both before claiming them in the App Store's accessibility labels.
This website
This site uses the same large type and colors, works with the keyboard alone, and works at any zoom level.
