Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and Fouta App LLC for using Hallmates. By joining Hallmates you agree to them and to our community guidelines.

Draft dated October 24, 2026. Not in effect yet.

In plain words

  • Hallmates is a private space for the verified owners, residents and board members of one condo association.
  • It is not run by your association or its management company. Posts here are not official association business.
  • Polls show what members think. They are not official association votes.
  • Be truthful and respectful. No harassment, threats, or sharing other people's private details.
  • Market trades are between neighbors. Hallmates does not handle payments and is not responsible for items.
  • Your community admin can remove posts that break the rules and pause accounts. You can ask us to review that decision.
  • You can delete your account at any time.

The full text below is a plain-language starting point written from how the app works. A lawyer licensed in the state where Fouta App LLC is organized should review all of it, especially the sections on liability, disputes, governing law and the minimum age.

1. Who can use Hallmates

You may use Hallmates if you are 18 or older and you were invited by your community's admin (or, where your community allows it, by the owner of your unit). Each community decides who belongs: its admin confirms that members own or live in a unit, for example from the owner list, the county property record or a document you provide.

You agree to give your real name and to keep your email address current, because that is how you sign in.

2. Your account

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to your email secure, and do not share your codes. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at admin@gethallmates.com if you think someone else has used it.

3. Hallmates is independent of your association

Your condo association, its board and its management company do not run Hallmates. Unless your association formally adopts something, nothing on Hallmates is an official notice, record, meeting, vote or decision of the association. Polls and petitions show what members think and can be shared with the board, but they do not replace the voting rules in your association's governing documents.

Figures on the "Our money" page are entered by your board or admin from the association's documents. We do not check them. For official figures, ask your association for its records.

Confirm this disclaimer is strong enough given that board members may use Hallmates, and whether anything board members post could be treated as association business.

4. What you post

You keep ownership of what you post. You give Fouta App LLC permission to store, copy and show it to the members of your community, only so that Hallmates can work. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for posts, replies and issue reports kept as "Former neighbor" as described in our privacy policy.

You promise that you have the right to share what you post, including photos and documents, and that it follows our community guidelines.

5. Rules

Do not use Hallmates to harass, threaten or deceive anyone, to share other people's private information, to post anything illegal, sexual or hateful, to sell for a business, to send spam, or to break into or overload the service. The community guidelines explain these rules in more detail.

6. Moderation

Anyone can report a post, issue, listing, conversation or person. Your community admin reviews reports, can remove content that breaks the rules, and can pause or remove a membership. We (Fouta App LLC) can also remove content or accounts that break these terms or the law, and we act on reports of serious harm ourselves. If you think a decision was wrong, email admin@gethallmates.com and we will review it.

Admins can remove content today. Pausing or removing a membership is being added to the admin website now; it is not in the server yet.

7. The neighbor market

The market lets neighbors sell, give, lend or ask for things. Hallmates does not take part in any trade, handle payments, check items or guarantee anything. Arrange trades directly and safely. Your community admin can turn the market off or limit what can be listed.

8. Leaving or being removed

You can delete your account at any time in the app or from our delete your account page. Your community admin or we may end your access if you break these terms, if you no longer own or live in a unit, or if your community stops using Hallmates. If we stop running Hallmates, we will give you notice in the app first.

9. Price

Hallmates is free for members.

Pricing for associations has not been decided. If associations will pay, add the terms for that (probably a separate agreement with the association).

10. No guarantees

We work to keep Hallmates running and safe, but we provide it "as is". We do not promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we are not responsible for what members post or for trades between neighbors.

11. Limit on our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, Fouta App LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of Hallmates, and our total liability to you is limited to one hundred US dollars.

Standard limitation and indemnity clauses need to be written for the governing state, along with any consumer-protection limits.

12. Disputes and governing law

If you have a problem with Hallmates, email us first and we will try to fix it. These terms are governed by the laws of the state where Fouta App LLC is organized.

Decide whether to include arbitration or a class-action waiver, and the court for disputes.

13. Apple and Google

If you downloaded Hallmates from the Apple App Store, Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Hallmates or its support, but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries. The same applies to Google if you downloaded it from Google Play.

Apple's licensed application end user agreement lists minimum terms a custom agreement must include. Check this section against it, or rely on Apple's standard agreement.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Hallmates after that, the new terms apply.
